What Good Can a Handgun Do Against an Army.....?
A friend of mine recently forwarded me a question a friend of his had posed: "If/when our Federal Government comes to pilfer, pillage, plunder our property and destroy our lives, what good can a handgun do against an army with advanced weaponry, tanks, missiles, planes, or whatever else they might have at their disposal to achieve their nefarious goals? I'm more concerned about this scenario: Gas goes waaaaaaaaaaay up. Unemployment goes waaaaaaaaaaay up. Supplies of food goes waaaaaaaaaay down due to lack of fertilizer (oil based) and fuel. Prices go waaaaaaaaaaaay up, or becomes almost unavailable. Government services are restricted, in some cases fresh water and sewage. People start a mass exodus from the cities that can no longer sustain them. They steal their way inland towards the known foodbasket areas and those with farm animals. They hijack a car, and when it runs out of gas, get another. LEOs are over run with calls for service, outgunned, or just outnumbered. The hordes of locusts get to the people who are bunkered in, the "Doomsday Preppers", and the nutcases who may have made the right call, and are supplied. Then the ugly part: Defense of home and castle. Lots of locusts out there, and defending any position in a military fashion has its downsides, particularly when the enemy can wait you out. Seige situations. And supplies will only last so long. And bullets. And people. It's something to think about. Steve |

Do you have medical expertise necessary to make your own serums? Having a few months food stocked away isn't going to get it. |

And, the people who have all those preparations (and are practiced in using
them) will be fine. Might not be many people to come out and play with..... Christopher A. Young Learn more about Jesus www.lds.org .. "Richard" wrote in message m... Young Learn more about Jesus www.lds.org There will be no "safe" places. To defend an average 5 acre property would take many people working shifts, and being heavily armed with superior weapons. Sniping, booby traps, and artillery would take a toll. How many people do you know who know how to do perimeter patrol effectively? And how quickly would the people living in the compound consume what had been stored. Remember, you can't go out to the garden because you'll be sniped, and all the meat bearing animals will be either stolen or killed. As with the ancient Indians, bands of a few will be living in holes in the rock high up, defending themselves against cannibalistic attackers. Yes, cannibalism was verified in the post 1330 drought that brought down the Anasazi/Pueblo culture who, at that time had a thriving agricultural water system, society, and economy. The idea the LDS proposes for their members to keep a supply of food on hand is practical to protect against loss of income, hard times, and such, but in a real social meltdown, it would be almost useless. And what happens when friends, family, and neighbors start running out? How do you select who you will share with, and how much will that dilute your own chances for survival? Steve |

"Richard" wrote Starvation happens rather quickly when the shelves go empty. Within scant weeks disease blossoms. Even those who thought they were safe and prepared fall. I can see that preparation and stocking will give some people a little more time. But after the siege mentality, it's a waiting game. At least the seigers can hunt and gather. The thought of being in a besieged city in the middle ages, and them throwing rotten cows or dead humans over the walls into the city with trebuchets somewhat unnerves me when it comes to some of these preppers thinking they can hold out. Yes, if not assaulted, they may have food and provisions to hold out long enough to make a difference in the final result. But there are going to be lots of people trying to come in, and you can only go without sleep so long, and you can only be lucky so long, too. Steve |
