On a quick perusal of Google, it seem the stats have been inaccurate for a couple of months now. There can't possibly be 20,000 posts per week, probably 1/10 of that. I've spent a bit of time looking into this. There are two issues. I was using a sed script to deal with a website that lets people post to usenet from the web that has an improper header that that blows up Gary Knights newsstats script. Unfortuantly my sed script was changing the file date of each message to the time it was run. I have fixed that. I thought I was only modifying the offending message. Knights script doesn't look at the nntp posting date, he relies on the file creation date. Then I found a logic error in the newsstats program. There must be an difference in how w2k and cygwin lists a directory vs *nix. I corrected that and I'm getting rational results now. The next posting will be for the period from about 11 AM Dec 24 to whenever I get around to generating it. The following posting on the next week should be accurate. Thanks to you and Steve for pointing out the problem.
