Your opinion on the Party of NO and their continued efforts to destroy
the economy?

Remember that you as a taxpayer own some of their car companies.

Republicans in the Senate could block another $2 billion to keep the
popular ?Cash for Clunkers? program alive.

?The role of the federal government is not to run the used-car
business,? Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) said on ?Fox News Sunday.? ?I just
think this is a great example of the stupidity coming out of Washington
right now.?

Still, with just a week to go before the Senate wraps up its work for
the summer, DeMint would not commit to filibustering a House-passed
bill that would shift $2 billion in economic stimulus funds to the
popular rebate program that was created to boost auto sales and help
car owners trade in their older gas guzzlers for newer, more fuel-
efficient vehicles.

The program exhausted its $1 billion budget in just one week, as car
dealers across the country applied for money to help move new cars off
their lots. After a brutal year for auto sales, dealers sold an
estimated 250,000 cars in the past week alone.

I am philosophically opposed to the program. It is a wasteful sham.
Taking vehicles as few as a couple of years old and destroying them.
While 30 year old "economy" car's sputter by spewing oil laden exhaust..

False, they still have to pass smog tests.

That depends a LOT on what state they are in and IF that state even does
testing. In many states they are exempt from testing.

If the program is to continue then take the 2 billion off the pork laden
"stimulus" bill and use it here.

I'll buy that!

Only problem is that you KNOW they won't do that.

At least "cash for clunkers" is providing a boost NOW.. not two or three
years from now.

A great success and don't forget the multiplier effect. For every buck
rebated in the C4C program pushes a total of $3.75 or more through short
term economic markets. The very markets that should have been encouraged
when those billions were given to Bank of America, AIG, CitiGroup, Chase,
etc.

Only problem is that the dealerships are VERY worried that they will be
getting many of these new cars back because the people won't be able to
pay for them. I know of one place that is already planning on a 50%
default on loans!

It is a shame it did not happen before the government sponsored
destruction of those Chrysler dealerships back in June..

Wasn't aware the the government had bombed Chrysler, any cites?
