Default Lathe servo power feed post in DropBox

I have been posting questions here about the addition of an independent
power feed on my lathe. Well, I've finished it & I've also finished a
write up:

http://www.metalworking.com/dropbox/ServoPowerFeed.pdf

it's 560kB. Sorry, dial-up'ers.

I found it to be a neat & very worthwhile project. 'Hope you enjoy.

Bob,
Is that the same JET 1024 that you got from me (Al in Dracut) a few
years back? Still working out good for you?

It is the same one & it is working out nicely. Especially with a few
mods that I've made (this servo feed, a belt tensioner, and, best of
all, a 3-ph motor + VFD + op amp controller).

Thank you! My pleasure - I like to share. I'm surprised that there's
not more replies. Maybe because it's on-topic & this NG is now so OT,
that on-topic is off-topic & ignored. Just kidding.

I had a look and liked it Bob. Its not relevant to my lathe etc but its
always interesting to see how others do things. Good job.

Great, glad to hear that. I still have it's twin sister here as well. I
had planned to sell it once I got my Sheldon running, but even though
the Sheldon is running great, I can't quite bring myself to part with
the jet. For all of the abuse Asian machinery gets, I found mine to be a
very capable machine, with just a few tweaks. Besides, having two lathes
makes me feel important. (heh)

I really have to do the 3PH+VFD thing on mine. I have that on the
Sheldon, it makes a world of difference.

Nice job on the feed motor, and great writeup too.

When I first read it I thought you where thread cutting when I read lead screw but later
it sounds like you ment feed shaft and the pictures tend to confirm it.

The project is kind of neat. I like being able to grab the varispeed control on my
clausing and speed up the spindle or slow it down while cutting.

Your project lets you change feed in flight. That is pretty cool.

Thanks for the feedback. You're right about it not being the "lead
screw", but I didn't know what else to call it. "Feed shaft" is good &
I've changed the write up to use that term. I'll replace the DropBox
entry when I find out how to.

The in-flight change wasn't what I was aiming for, but I can do it &
have. You're right about its coolness.

Thanks,
Bob

Indeed it does. I first had one on my drill press & I would never go
back to changing belts.

Nice job on the feed motor, and great writeup too.

Thank you!
