Default ABS and OBDII code reader.

I have been thinking of buying one of those code readers and wondered
if it would diagnose why my ABS light is on in my truck or if that
requires another type of reader?

ABS is not included in the OBD2 spec.
Some high-end readers will give you ABS and airbag codes on some
vehicles. And some require a separate reader. You just have to shop.
Actron makes two separate scanners.
But many manufacturers withhold that information for their own service
bays.

it depends on the brand of truck and the specific reader you buy. the $39
harbor freight type units will only read P-Codes, but the more expensive
ones will read out a lot on some cars. You need to be specific and check
the Mfgr. Expect to spend well over $500

If you find the proper internet forum for your make/model truck, there
is very likely a method that will get the ABS light flashing a code.

ABS problems are usually the fuse, a crapped-up sensor wheel, or a bad
sensor wire or sensor.
