Volt's are a hoax. GM is essentially a fraud.

Them's fighting words: electric cars are an enticing idea

I'd say electric vehicles are a little more than an enticing idea.
A lot more, in fact.

eventually someone will figure out the right approach.

I'd sort of like that someone to be American or American's.

Having said
that, I agree that GM is being quite dishonest about Volt: the ads
tout
it as 'the car that drives 40 miles before using any gas', implying
that it's a free ride. Well. to fully charge the batteries it needs t
o be on 20A 110V circuit for 10 hours (my estimate, but I shouldn't
be too far off). This means 22 kWh, or around 3 US$, so their whole
premise is misleading, even if the car wasn't significantly more
expensive.

The fraud is that they will be able to build the car in production at all.
They were talking about rolling the thing out for the 2010 model year as I
recall.
That's about a year from now and as far as I can tell, GM will still be
fondling their privates, not shipping vehicles to dealers.
I don't know what they are serious about but it isn't building Volts.
It's the wrong car design anyway.
I'd waive safety standars and go for something at the $12,500.00 price
point.
