But the body is still recovering from too much turkey and too many

I have one shop with hydronic heat and the other has a propane trailer
furnace installed in the attic area. The trailer furnace was a free one
from a guy tearing down a couple old trailers. Just installed it
upstairs with the ductwork dropping below the rafters. Then some 4x10
ducts to the corners. Cold air return runs down the back wall behind the
workbench so it is out of sight.

The hydronic is real nice. No cold floor to walk/lay on when your
working under a vehicle and because I also installed a short loop out
under the apron and part of the driveway there is a nice clean area for
folks to park on. Hydronic is not good if you want heat NOW though as it
takes a while to heat all the thermal mass.
I installed a couple more heating systems in the shop as well. I have
the original boiler that has a gas burner on one end and an oil burner
on the other, then I put together a used oil burner unit with a heat
exchanger and installed a couple of LARGE electric water heaters as well.

Any concerns with dumping all of that water vapor right into the shop?

I have a ventless setup in my Garage. I use a shop fan (Air King) to
circulate the air on low.

This is the 2nd Year I'm running it and I have yet to see any rust
caused by it on any of the cast iron or steel that gets left out.

I think the fact that the shop is a little drafty (the fan pressure
probably pushes some of the humidity out), and winters in the Chicago
area make the air super dry (the water vapor probably makes the
humidity higher than 0 but less than high) probably make it OK.

Hey Tom,

I have a 9x10 door to the South and a 10x10 door to the East. I open
them both when the wind is blowing, the air hose gets loose and the
saw dust heads down town.

I make sure that doesn't happen. My garage is really a shop (there is
a car parked in there, but its engine block is sitting on a
stand...). So I don't *have* to open the door to park a car; anything
I was going to do that involves opening the door gets postponed when
there's a windstorm.

Many years ago, I had a student appear in my office to tell me he was
withdrawing from the university for the semester. I asked him why...

"Remember the windstorm last night"
"Yes."
"I live in a trailer up in San Augustine Pass."
"OK."
"The gusts up there were over 70MPH"
"Wow."
"My trailer blew over.
"Ouch."
"I was in it."

I signed the form...

Okay, how many of us are waiting for it to be warm enough to go play in the garage again.

Actually..yes it has. My blood thinned out years ago. Takes me a
winter go get hardened back up, but..after the two back surgeries..the
cold screws me up.

Ya, well, I don't handle gallons-of-sweat heat well anymore either.
Meanwhile, I gotta put on a flannel shirt and go shovel the snow outta
the truck bed ... again.

When you get done Don, would you get my deck for me? I got bored with it and
decided to go back in and play with autocad.

In 3D, no doubt... listening for screams of anguish...

I went out to the garage today. The machines were waiving at me saying

play
with me, play with me, but it was too cold. How many are in this

situation
at the moment?

Wes

Since I maintain a minimum temperature of 40°F in my shop during the winter
in order to reduce rusting due to condensation, I only have to wait a
half-hour or so after adjusting the thermostat for it to be warm enough in
my shop to work in shirtsleeves.

I plan to be out there for a while this afternoon despite the cold, wet
snow that is falling outside.

Not me, on Boxing Day I went out to the workshop ( steel shed, 8.5m
x 4.5m ) and it was 58 at head height, 54 at bench height. I left
immediately as it was too hot at 136F to work. It was the hottest BD
since records started in the 1890's at 45C official, where I live it
was 47C. Friday I bought a sprinkler hose and laid it in the roof,
dropped the inside temp from 46 to 37 in less than 10 minutes with
minimum water flow. I prefer to work at night when it has cooled
down, was a delightful 25/77 last night when I finished an adaptor for
the tractor.
