I had to re-read it to catch it. So much of the religious ranting is so
bizarre that the first time I read it I just thought it was that -

No need to feel stupid. It's actually fairly subtle parody when compared to
some of the more extremist Christians. I don't mean to knock Christians in
general or anything, but every religion and ideology has its share of
wackos.
