Bush perpetuates irrational fears ....
By Josh Macdonald DAILY BRUIN COLUMNIST [ Much can be said about the incompetence of the current U.S. government, but it's hard to argue that they don't seem to have the well-being and security of the American people in mind. During the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, President Bush made it clear that his thoughts on the disaster, however limited, were focused on those in the most need. In a quote from The Washington Post, President Bush took the time during a press conference to reference the immense loss: "Out of the rubbles of (Sen.) Trent Lott's house – he lost his entire house – there's going to be a fantastic house. And I'm looking forward to sitting on the porch." If there's one thing the Bush administration really understands, it's that government is all about providing security – or in Bush's case, the illusion of security. I'm talking about the good old-fashioned neighborhood watch variety, where everybody benefits but the criminals. Where loaded rifles and shotguns hang on the walls in every house. Where an itchy feeling in the air is enough to lure an armed posse out into the streets. Step one: Find a legitimate threat to public well-being. Then, turn it into an irrational fear you can manipulate the public with at any time. How would we know how scared to be if it wasn't for the Homeland Security color chart? ] More good stuff ... -- Cliff |

Shrug sigh Perhaps Lefty Jim is right (double entendre intentional) about your Gunneritis. ;) I'd prefer to have my country back, TYVM, because it looks as if the corporate/money-led country portrayed in Max Headroom and RoboCop vids is coming to life here in the USA. Would that be the the Socialist Nanny State the Left has been promoting for 50 yrs, you wish to return to? I guess we'll have to agree to totally disagree on this issue. Indeed. Hummm and here I get accused of being a bunker dwelling survivalist sky is falling type..and when I am laid back about something..I get flack for that too. Shrug G Got black helicopters buzzing your house? AAMOF, I did, in Vista. I'll email the pic to you. g (It turned out to be just a San Diego Sheriff's Dept. ASTREA copter, but I simply -had- to take that photo.) BTW, I picked up a 3-year subscription to Guns & Ammo for $10 on eBay. ($0.99 + $9 s/h.) 2 other mags are coming for that rate, too. Sucha deal! Way cool. I guess I need to start looking on Ebay for such deals. Im not currently taking any magazines other than the Rifleman. I used to get Handloader religiously...shrug. sigh Perhaps Lefty Jim is right (double entendre intentional) about your Gunneritis. ;) I'd prefer to have my country back, ... Crooked politicans taking bribes? No, that's the fault of Bill Clinton's adminstration. Huge balance of trade deficits? Bill Clinton. Huge deficit spending? Bill Clinton again I guess. Maybe it was Ted Kennedy at Chappaquidick. We lost the Vietnam war? Jane Fonda's fault. We should have won. That was a good war. Things are just fine in Iraq. We're winning. There's peace there now that we invaded. We're going to lose that war at home, too, because of anti-war protesters. We need more justices like Sam Alito so we can simply overturn Roe v Wade, once and for all. Then we move on to Griswold v CT. There's no right to privacy in the constitution. No WMDs? That was Valerie Plame's fault. They were there. We never said that anyway. We told the truth about why we invaded iraq. We had bad inteligence. It was the CIAs fault. Somebody tattled about the NSA spying program? That was a democrat probably, we need to hang whoever did it. The government should be able to spy on anyone at any time. We need this to fight terrorists. We need to torture people to fight terrorism. Enron? Abramoff? Cunningham? Cheney's shotgun? Those were all Hillary Clinton's fault. The democrats do it too. The democrats have done worse. The democrats are bigger crooks. Rich folks pay too much taxes. It's good to have our jobs sent to India. We should be proud to send them. We need to have the US taxpayers bail out corporations so they can keep on contributing to political campaigns. Nobody should get pensions anymore. Corporations can't afford them. Shareholder value is more important than employing workers. We should force folks to put their social security money in the stock market. George Bush had no *idea* the levees were going to break. Nobody told him. We need our goverment to promote religion more. Evolution is a religion. We should teach kids religion in public schools. Nobody should be able to go bankrupt except corporations. Corporations have a first amendment right to free speech. Nobody really needs to understand the bill of rights, they can just watch 'The Simpsons' instead. It's damn tough to be to the _right_ of that collection of claptrap. Whoo boy, no wonder I was lefty jim. Who wants to step up to the plate, who wants to be the next person to be the resident flaming liberal? Or does everyone on rcm pretty much feel like all that stuff above is, well, pretty much all right, and the truth? The technical aspect of rcm is great, don't get me wrong. It's the rest of the flavor that's quite disagreeable, and getting more and more pervasive. My regards to all that I've shared pleasant conversation with. When living on the "Left" coast, I lived on the Pacific plate and
worked on the North American plate. The Pacific plate - western side - is flowing Northward and enters the ocean north of San Francisco. There is a mountain (hills) range that is coastal - and has a unique outcropping of rocks. It is called the Pinnacles National Monument. The san Andres fault runs through them - there is a station there logging hits - but the other half of the mountain is almost 400 miles south! It was split in two and one side floated north through the years. Mapquest or other - look for Soledad - just East from there.
