Next tap size up from 3mm
I need to retap something up to the next closest american thread. It
was threaded 3 mm. Would that be a 4-40? Thanks, Ron |

Do they make a #5 tap? Would it be hard to find a #5 set screw?

A #5 screw is .125". Randy Note that a #8 is the smallest size that will have a core diameter greater than 3mm. This could make for a better thread. Mark Rand RTFM |

Mark Rand RTFM Unless he uses a form tap. 6-32 or 6-40 would be doable. Perhaps an insert could be used. IIRC, the drill size for a 4-40 STItap is right close to 3mm. michael |
