http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ategory=12 72 That looks like a *real* solid 9" lathe. The kind that would eat a 9" SB model A for a snack. A small snack. I looked at that one earlier this week, what a beautiful beast!
I don't think I have ever seen a Q.C. Box that would do a 2 tpi thread. This is one 9" lathe that would test the limits of a piston type tool post. Kent "jim rozen" wrote in message ... Does nothing for me, I'm afraid.
3500 lbs of hassle, workshop-filling dimensions of a small truck, yet only 9" x 22" of useful size ? |

Hendy Lathes are wonderful to run. I have a 14 X 30 and use it all
the time. This machine origionally had a DC Thyratron tube drive. My 14 X 30 did too. After 40 years it was unreliable so it got a fresh AC VFD and motor. You would have to be careful with this one. If it has the old drive, you had better plan on replacing it. Bob |

Does nothing for me, I'm afraid. 3500 lbs of hassle, workshop-filling dimensions of a small truck, yet only 9" x 22" of useful size ? Andy and all, The 3500# estimate on the ad is probably slightly high, I'd look for something more like 2600# to 2800#. Less than a ton-and-a-half. Lots of big castings, but just not that big a piece. Call the overall dimensions 7' x 2'. That's a pretty small truck. Now, you've got to have working room around it, but a lathe can be put against a wall, just give yourself enough room (2') to get back there if you need to work on the gearbox. Lastly, awesome performance. A pleasure to work with. We've got a small Hendey in the maintenance shop and it is used a lot. Anyway, your mileage may vary, etc. Somebody's going to buy a little piece of history that cuts steel like nobody's business. All the best. |

This is not particularly big, about 5' long. Now tell you what..you buy it for me, and Ill be tickled to ship you a nice Logan 10x31, tooled with various bits and pieces. Its on a decent cabinet, and you can put wheels under it and roll it around your shop. Straight across swap? Got a deal? Afterall..you are getting a much bigger and lighter lathe with the Logan. :P Gunner Confronting Liberals with the facts of reality is very much akin to clubbing baby seals. Does nothing for me, I'm afraid. Then I take it you would never want a Hardinge HLV-H? LOL. I strongly suspect that one could chuck up the HLVH in that Hendy, and turn it down to a toothpick. Granted the HLVHs are terrific machines, but they're not real good at taking heavy cuts. That hendy otoh looks just super solid. If I didn't already have my 10L south bend, that would be the machine for me. Not many of them around anymore in any decent condition. I have one..flame hardened ways..with .006 taper per inch. And how much does a Colchester weigh?
