Jet 1024 lathe spindle, part 2
I got the spindle out of my Jet lathe. The inboard end plate did need
to be removed so the inner bearing could come out with the spindle. The spindle had to be driven out (yes, I was careful about not munging the receiving end) and I do mean "driven", not "bumped". I measured the bull gear bore as .002 *less* than the spindle diameter! I do not intend to reassemble it without loosening this fit. After all, there is a key and it doesn't have to be that tight. So, it will be easier to chuck up the bull gear and increase its bore than mounting the spindle and turning it down. (Easier because to hold one end of the spindle by the tail stock would require my making a special center.) Does it make a difference which I do? Thanks, Bob |
