Raffle offers chance to win firearms

For the first time in 98 years there will be no Shrine Circus in
Detroit. But the first Sportsman's Raffle -- to be held Aug. 13 --
will offer more than 100 firearms for the sportsman and woman, while
helping raise funds for Shriners.

The $20 raffle tickets are available now through Aug. 13, when the
raffle will take place from noon to 5 p.m. at the Detroit Shrine
Conference Center, 24350 Southfield Road in Southfield.

Gary Lewandowski of Clinton Township, secretary of Shrine Motor Corps,
said the idea for a firearms raffle came from successful fund-raising
campaigns by an out-state Shriner's group.

"Some of our guys know other Shrine Centers, and one out of state had
a successful raffle last year," Lewandowski said. "There will be over
a hundred hunting long guns and cash available in the raffle."

There will be one firearm or cash prize raffled every 3 minutes for
five hours, Lewandowski said.

"Gander Mountain is handling all the firearms. If your ticket is
picked in the raffle, you receive a voucher and pick up your gun at
Gander Mountain," Lewandowski said. "You could win multiple times
because if you win, your ticket is tossed back into the drawing."

Lewandowski said there will be food and refreshments available to
those who purchase tickets.

Firearms available in the raffle include a Weatherby Vanguard Bolt
Action 30.06; Browning 700 BDL Bolt Action 7 mm Mag; Ruger K-77 SS
270; Savage 16 270 with scope; Mossberg 835 Camo 12-gauge pump; Marlin
925 M22 Mag; Winchester 94 lever 44 Mag and Bennelli Nova Pump
..12-gauge.

A 2005 Arctic Cat 400 ATV will be raffled off as well. Tickets for the
ATV are $5 each or five tickets for $20.
