Default Copper "Caps" on Small Roof Section Above Study Windows?

Copper "Cap" on Small Roof Section Above Study Windows?

Hi,

A home I'm considering purchasing (see recent post in this forum) has a
Study, a portion of which sticks-out from the gable in which it sits. It's
along the lines of a box window, but extends from the foundation up to
about 2/3 of the top of the gable and has three windows in stalled, 2
narrower windows flanking a wider central window. The narrow windows are
on the angled walls, which extend the room out about 1' to the section in
which the larger center window is installed. The builder intends to top it
off with standard roofing materials. I have seen copper "caps" used
instead, and they can really look good, depending upon the brick or stone
that that surrounds it. My questions:

1. First, terminology: Please excuse my inexperience with terminology.
Perhaps you can tell me what the proper terms a

a. What is the study 'extension" actually called?

b. What is the copper 'cap' called?

2. How much extra should it cost to have the builder purchase and install
a copper 'cap'? By 'extra' I mean above and beyond what it would cost him
to top it with roofing material instead.

Many thanks,
--

Could be a "bay window"?

Depending on the pitch of the roof deck, standing-seam(steep pitch), or
flat-seam soldered(shallow pitch). If the builder was gonna put shingles on it,
it's probably steeper than 4-in-12. Standing seam should work ok.

You cannot "purchase" a ready-fit copper roof system for this or just about any
other roof. Each one is custom made. Brick or stone will bring up the price, as
the roofer will need to counterflash rather creatively. Consult with some local
reputable roofing companies for estimates on this. It should be estimated in
the field (that means in plain sight of the job at hand!). Tom
