An old man living alone in South Armagh,
whose only son was in Long Kesh Prison,
didn't have anyone to dig his garden for his potatoes.
So he wrote to his son about his predicament.
The son sent the reply, "For HEAVENS SAKE,
don't dig the garden up, that's where I buried
the guns!!!!!"
At 3 AM the next morning, a dozen British soldiers
turned up and dug the garden for 3 hours,
but didn't find any guns.
Confused, the man wrote to his son telling him
what had happened, asking him what he should do now?
The son sent the reply: "NOW plant the potatoes!"

After having dug to a depth of 1,000 meters last year, French
scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 1,000 years and
came to the conclusion that their ancestors had a telephone network
all those centuries ago.

Not to be outdone by the French, English scientists dug to a depth of
2,000 meters and shortly after headlines in the U.K. newspapers read:
"English archeologists have found traces of 2,000-year-old fiber-optic
cable and have concluded that their ancestors had an advanced
high-tech digital communications network a thousand years earlier than
the French."

One week later, Irish newspapers reported the following: "After
digging as deep as 5,000 meters in an old marketplace, scientists had
found absolutely nothing. They, therefore, concluded that 5,000 years
ago the Irish were already using wireless technology."

Gov't subsidized potatoes. ;-)

that is a real Tom Sawyer solution

I wonder if I could grow some potatoes on my porch, would it be easier than the planting job my sister assigned me

in spite of what my sister says, today does not feel like spring planting day
it has not gotten over 55 at all

she said the agastache should be growing already but pretty much nothing else is

I read that it "thrives on neglect"

she said Yes they do thrive on neglect, unlike bouvardia its not fussy which is why she chose it for me. but she also bought me a bouvardia

she says Its already warm enough (anything over 40 degrees) to start getting some sprouts.
she says Plants new growth actually respond more first to day length than they do to warmth.
Sunlight is most important now.

she said to Keep checking that I should see something green down between the base of the brown sticks soon.

I do not. I am a terrible gardener

was sitting, on a summer day, beneath a shady tree,
descending into a slumber, when a vision came to me.
There was beating of a thousand drums - the ground was shaking too.
Then over the horizon came a woman into view. --Ministry Ideaz. Poem for Sisters
