Default Generac Model 0065512 Standby Generator

I have a Generac Model 0065512 Standby Generator and cannot find the
owner manual. Nor can I find a free web source for same. Anyone know
of one?

I don't know if mine is working right or not. I caled local dealer
who said he would come out to take a look. Promised twice - never
showed.

I suffered a brief outage recently - the lights blinked then came back
on. However my TVs had to be restarted manually. Same for my PC.
Would this be normal?

Thanks

DEFINITELY normal, as the generator can not anticipate the outage and
start before the power goes out, nor can it switch quickly enough to
not reset MANY devices.

They take some number of seconds to start up and get up to speed.
It's a generator, not a UPS. If that's the only issue, it's going to be
an expensive service call for nothing. Also these have self-test built-in
and normally run a test cycle once a week. Should have a code or something
set if something is wrong. Newer ones, I would think would have added
the ability to communicate via wifi to let you know too, but IDK, the
one I worked on was from over ten years ago.

My Generac is four years old. Just windered.
My bro in Maine (brrr) said his power went out but his TV did not. I
wasn't there! I was just curious.
Thanks

You should ask him what that means. Was he watching it at the time?
Maybe it went off briefly but then powered itself back up to where it
left off. Or it's on a UPS. Or he has some standby system that's a lot
better than all the other ones out there.

Normal, but can be eliminated. I always hated the TV box taking forever
to reboot. I bought a $40 UPS battery unit and plug into that. No more
dropouts when the power goes out for a few seconds.

Likewize - but for my 50 inch plasma a $40 unit won't cut it - - - -
unless it's one I pick up used for $40 and have to spend another 60 or
more for batteries - - - -

Works well for the short time the power is out, often just seconds.
enough to screw up the box. I got it not so much for the TV but the
cable box that takes forever to get going again. If it is recording at
the time you'd lose that too.

Really, just think how horrid it would be for the TV to be out 5 or 10
minutes? Devastating, the whole family would become disoriented.

The battery on my Sola 450 on the downstairs TV just went south so
it's riding bareback at the moment. I've got 2 3KV units inthe garage
but not enough room in the entertainment unit and no 30 amp outlet in
the basement.

A lot of modern devices with electronics suffer from "power amnesia",
where a power outage leads to devices forgetting they're supposed to
be on. Many TVs have that problem (often smaller ones don't).
Computers do, but many allow normal "power" function with a setup option.

Â* There is usually a setting in the BIOS (may not apply to W10
machines) that allows you to choose auto-reboot or not . I set mine all
on no-reboot , out here we can get multiple short outages in a brief time .

Interesting, I never knew there was a setting, but it;s a good idea and
makes sense. For a typical PC I would not want it to reboot. If it's
an office PC that has to be used often or one for some dedicated application,
then having it power back up could make sense. I can't say I've paid close
attention, but if I had to guess, I think the ones here have been set to
stay off.

It is in the BIOS power settings and the OS is irrelevant. It is
really just whether the machine powers back on after a power failure
or stays off until you manually power it back on. It may just revert
to the state it was in when you lost power. Back before that was an
option I used to use a 12v relay with the N/C point going to the power
button. It will hold the power on line active until the 12v supply
comes up. All of my media and MP3 players come up after a power
failure.

My MP3 players always came up and down with the power even my current
W/7 machines and other than that nag screen, they seem fine with it.
In XP/W95-8 you could turn the nagger off. I haven't found it in 7 but
I am sure it is there somewhere.
