Methinks he should impose tariffs *gradually* and over a few years.

The American people will be paying the tariffs Trump just put on, not China.. And China just countered with new tariffs on US agricultural products. Hope those pig farmers that voted for Trump are happy when their sales to China decrease and pork prices drop.

Traitor_4ever, do you think China is the only country that purchases food products from The U.S.A. and that some other country would be glad to purchase American products? Some little guy in India could purchase American grain then sell it to China at a profit. Of course, the Indian man wouldn't tell the Chinese where the grain came from. It would be funny to see American food products made illegal for Chinese people to possess. It would be a lot like the government here telling people they can't have a plant that grows everywhere and that people can't smoke it or put it in brownies. Somebody would find a way to hide the source of American food products and ship them into China. ^_^

The American people will be paying the tariffs Trump just put on, not China. And China just countered with new tariffs on US agricultural products.. Hope those pig farmers that voted for Trump are happy when their sales to China decrease and pork prices drop.

Traitor_4ever, do you think China is the only country that purchases food products from The U.S.A. and that some other country would be glad to purchase American products?

Imagine you were in business selling a fungible product and the govt just
put a 25% penalty on one third of your existing customers, where if they continue to buy from you, they have to pay a new 25% tax. It wouldn't
affect you? You could just sell all that product somewhere else
when your existing customers move to lower cost suppliers?
China takes over half of US soybeans. Or you're Boeing, and China puts
a 25% tariff on airplanes, so China instead buys from Airbus. Where
is Boeing going to sell those airplanes that China would have bought?
Airbus will be building factories and Boeing will be laying people off,
that is what will happen.

So, we can go down that path. Who's going to cave first? Trump the
flipper or Dear Leader for life Xi? One has campaigns to finance,
lobbyist to deal with, mid-term elections to lose, an open media that
will be reporting, freedom of speech. The other, not so much. We're
already at the soybean and pork producers getting screwed in the heart
of Trumpland.

Some little guy in India could purchase American grain then sell it to China at a profit.

Sure, the country that has 1.4 bil people is going to buy soybeans a
bucket at a time. And never mind that it isn't feasible anyway, the
supply chain through India would be worse than paying the 25% tariff.

Of course, the Indian man wouldn't tell the Chinese where the grain came from. If there is a demand for a product, people will find a way to get it. Where is China going to buy food if their leaders cut off the supply from America?

From all the other countries that export soybeans and pork. They
could even move more business to those countries in retaliation if the
price were the same. That's called a trade war. We've already seen
that happen with Trump rejecting TPP, with Australia replacing US
beef in the TPP countries.

It would be funny to see American food products made illegal for Chinese people to possess. It would be a lot like the government here telling people they can't have a plant that grows everywhere and that people can't smoke it or put it in brownies. Somebody would find a way to hide the source of American food products and ship them into China. ^_^

IMO, Trump is acting like a bull in a china shop.
Methinks he should impose tariffs *gradually* and over a few years.

No I am not. The Elites have gotten wealthy off of one
way free trade. And they are screaming like stuck pigs
now that someone FINALLY has the interest of the people
in mind.

Aren't there some problems in your little socialist toilet
you should be tending to?

The American people will be paying the tariffs Trump just put on, not China.
