I am not sure someone taking a pot shot at his girlfriend is a "mass
shooting". If this was on the street in Baltimore 60 miles up the road
it would not have even made the local news in Baltimore.

I heard on the local talk radio station that the school resource officer was also a member of the SWAT team. He didn't hesitate to go after the shooter. I suppose there is a lot of difference in the training and mindset of SWAT officers and that of LEO's who act like security guards? o_O

Reports I heard say they are not sure if the kid was shot by the security
officer or he shot himself. Like you say, this looks more like a targeted
shooting, instead of intention of a mass shooting. If the security officer
had not engaged, not clear that he would have shot others. I'm sure we'll
learn more.
