how to remove bathtub ?
Go to your hardware store and ask for a basin wrench. It looks like a pipe
with a crosshair cut into the bottom that fits into the tub drain. Insert a screwdriver through the hole at the top (perpendicular) and unscrew the drain from the pipe. Voila! The wrench costs all of $7. C On Thu, 18 Mar 2004 02:13:43 GMT, "Evan Mann" wrote: I need to remove a bathtub but I have no idea how to disconnect it from the drain pipe. Tips? |

You can also disconnect the slip coupling on the drain outlet, if you have access behind the front of the tub. Jim |

how to remove bathtub ?
BTW, the sledgehammer suggestion only works if you have a cast iron
tub....some people forget there are steel and fiberglass tubs out there...and a sledge ain't worth a damn. In those cases, cut it out with a reciprocating saw...or just lift it out. how to remove bathtub ?
Ugh.. You had it easy!
When I redid the hall bath, I tried channel locks to get the basin out. No dice. Then I tried two screw drivers. Ruined them. Then I bought the basin wrench, and even with that, it was a job to get out. It was so hard to get out that I thought it might have been backthreaded. I even bent the piece of steel that I inserted through the wrench to use as the handle. I'm convinced, though, that without that wrench I would have been up sh!ts creek. Of course, now I have a basin wrench that sits idle. Anybody want to buy a slightly used basin wrench?
