I got a call yesterday, to secure some sheet
metal that was a safety hazzard, on a door.

Entirely to my surprise, the reality was just about
what had been called in. Most times, the customer
complaint and what I find are different.

A couple of C clamps bent the sheet metal back to
shape, and then a HF impact driver and some self
drilling screws (also from HF) put things back
into shape.

The driver spins a couple hundred RPM, easily fast
enough for the drill point to work. And then, the
rattle gun comes into action when the screw starts
to bind a bit. The rattle action does better than
just drilling, for some reason.

Manager approved, signed off, and I get paid by
and by. Net Whenever.

I still have a B&D 3/8" drill since I was a teen. Back then they
didn't have model numbers, per se, but a code. I haven't used it many
decades. Plugged it in some years ago and it wouldn't spin. It may
be a broken cord wire, a bad trigger switch or stuck brushes. Have not
pulled it apart to check. Just a dust collector.

Today, I won't even look at a B&D product.

Same here. A more recent B&D circle saw (old - old) I gave away. Cut
a few pavers with it and the bearing filled with dust -- what an awful
noise :)

I'd really like to have an impact drill of my own because I've used one
when we built a couple of different decks in the back yard. One was a
pool deck with a stairs and a couple levels to it, and the other a flat
deck with a pergola to shade it. The impact drill was better at putting
in the screws like you said. The circular saw is a tool I haven't really
used, yet, though. They kind of scare me, but the Ryobi has a smaller
version for the 18v battery which I could use and get used to before
trying a big circular saw.

I've got some old cow teat syringes (plastic, about 5CC)
which I load with vaseline or marine grease. Squirt a bit
into the pilot hole, and that makes life a lot smoother.

I'd be concerned about needing to remove the screws later,
and them being in too tightly.

Rub the screw threads across a bar of lanolin soap.

Easy greasy - it's a long slide home.

With all the talk of screwing going on in this group, I'm surprised my brother never told you of this lubricant before.....Um, that sentence might be taken the wrong way. Anyway, we both keep a stick of saw wax in our respective tool boxes. I dip the end of a drill bit or screw into the wax, it only takes a small dab of wax before drilling into most materials or running screws of any sort into any kind of material, except when I use thread-locker.. The wax also has anti-seize properties for screws and bolts. A bit of wax on a tap makes it easier to cut threads into any metal or other material and you're less likely to break the tap. Rub the stick against a saw blade on both sides before making a cut in wood, plastic or metal and the cutting action will be much smoother. It works well on jigsaw or reciprocating saw blades as well as hacksaw and circular saw blades. There is a special lube stick that's similar for dual saws but meant for use in those type saws. If you have a metal or wood door that's sticking, rub a bit of saw wax on the surface that's rubbing and it will alleviate the problem. It's also good for lubricating sticking drawers and drawer slides. It even works on zippers without damaging a plastic zipper or clothing. Once you obtain a tube of the the stuff, you'll wonder where it was all your life. ( ͡ᵔ ͜ʖ ͡ᵔ )
