Fact is, your carpet is probably ****ed but most carpets do not stain
from bleach because theyre

color fast. cut out the section of carpet that is ruined and cut a piece
from a closet if it

matches and replace the square. Don't mix chemicals if you don't know
what you are doing.

On the bright side, you have been given a chemistry lesson. Lol.

I'd use metabisulfite which I have but see dilute peroxide is also
recommended. Bleach is a powerful oxidizing agent and spill on a carpet
is bound to bleach the dye immediately.

When I was about 13 I did something foul in the toilet (I think it was after my first introduction to a HOT Madras !).
My mum smelt it, inspected the toilet & shrieked at me to clean it.
After about an hour (I was 13) I thought I'd better Obey.
I squirted Domestos in the toilet bowl - then RAN. I only got a slight whiff of the fumes but that had my chest burning & me coughing a fit !
Turns out my mum had put Harpic powder in the bowl already.
We had to leave the house for a while.
I was told later at school that I'd inadvertently made a gas that used to be used in warfare !
BE CAREFUL, some household chemicals really don't like each other - or YOU !

Comical to follow thread there. Mohamed says his mother would spray
with ammonia. Muslim kids blow up fast.

Don't do this! Mixing bleach & ammonia creates chloroform!

"It is also a reminder that the mixing of bleach with some household
cleansers (e.g. toilet bowl cleansers that contain acid) can generate
chlorine gas, and mixing bleach with ammonia generates toxic chloramine
vapor. Mixing bleach and ammonia is extremely dangerous, since toxic
vapors will be produced."

No it doesn't. It produces chloramines which are toxic and explosive.

The thread that will never die.

Chloramines are toxic. They are what the water company puts in your drinking water to kill bacteria.

It is less toxic than chlorine, which the water company used to put in your drinking water. Chlorine is much better at killing bacteria but we use the weaker chloramine instead. The reason is that if there is enough organic material in the drinking water, chlorine reacts to form trihalomethane compounds, which are believed to be cancer causing.

Did you notice we drink both of them?

but only in drinking water. Please don't drink ammonia OR bleach, straight up or mixed.

Darn! I'm glad you made the post warning about the danger of drinking ammonia OR bleach because I had been considering using them to wash(no pun) down the Tide Pods I was going to eat. o_O

Charcoal is a traditional chemical antidote. Skin surface bleach burns can be relieved by potato peelings.
Tobias.

There is a chemical used in hot tubs to reduce chlorine levels.

Sodium Thiosulfate.

I have no idea what the resulting chemicals might be, but it is sold at
the pool stores.
