People with cell phones are out of control lazy and literally addicted to them. I have to agree,,,,, Myself, I have a prepaid phone (only makes calls and sends texts). That is all I'll ever own, other than maybe getting one with a camera. My cellphone is turned off 99% of the time. I only turn it on when I need to make a call, or on the rare occasion that I'm expecting an important business call, or during some emergency. If people want to call, I have a landline with an answering machine. I rarely answer that one either. Use the machine, or dont bug me. I think all phones are annoying to say the least. I remember that before I got the answering machine, I always felt obligated to pick up the phone when it rang. That's why I got the machine, cuz people always seem to call at the worst time. There is no way in hell that I want that annoyance box ringing when I'm driving, or at any time where I'm away from home. I used to think texting was stupid too, but actually they are another way to communicate without being pestered. I read them when I turn on the phone, which might be days later. That's why I tell friends and family to use the landline machine if they want a fast response. This Wi-Fi light bulb looks far beyond ridiculous. If people want mood-lighting, put the damn control on the wall or have a remote. Phones are for phone calls!!!! |

And psychiatrists are for people who spend their whole life staring into the screen on their phone. (At least those who dont get killed while staring into that phone while driving 75mph in heavy traffic). Do yourself a favor. Save the psychiatrist bills and/or the car crash that kills you. Place that smart phone under your car tire, and drive over it at least 10 times. If it still works, use a sledge hammer on it! OR While driving 75mph in heavy traffic, toss it out the car window into any traffic lane. OR Give it to your psychiatrist and tell him to dispose of it for you, because it's the main cause of your mental illness. If all else fails, any 22 caliber or larger pistol or rifle will blast enough holes in that smart phone to render it dead. (A chainsaw or bandsaw is also a useful tool to destroy a smart phone). *** TRY IT, YOU'LL LIKE IT *** Smart people destroy Smart phones! Stupid people waste their lives staring at the screens on Smart phones, and miss out on life around them! |

When I drive home from the airport on a cold winter night after a week-long trip, the phone can switch on the heat as I leave the parking lot and the garage lights as I pull into the driveway. Energy savings and convenience in one device. Tomsic |

I use mine far more than I ever thought I would. At work, I used the calculator and stop watch when in the shop. I've used Google often, I've checked hotels and made reservation while traveling. I once drove 30 miles to a store to find it out of business. With my phone, I found another about a half mile away, saving time and money. Its a tool and has to be used properly. It can enhance the life around you. Exactly. |

Stupid people waste their lives staring at the screens on Smart phones, and miss out on life around them! Let's see how much life I've missed since this thread started: Thursday night: The wife and I went downtown to see an outdoor show. Friday night: The wife and I went downtown and saw a play that my son had a part in. Saturday: Spent the morning helping one son with some electrical work at his house and spent the afternoon with my wife and other son moving 5 yards of mulch. The evening was spent quietly with the wife catching up on some shows we had DVR'd. Sunday: Morning: bagels and coffee with the wife. Afternoon: drywalling with my son. Evening: A walk down by the bay with the wife and dogs and then back home to watch Baltimore beat New England. During that time when I "missed so much life", I had some texting sessions with my 2 daughters who are away at college. There was some fun stuff, with pictures, that one daughter wanted to share with me and there was some serious job related stuff that the other daughter needed some advice on. Using your method of keeping the phone off and relying on landline, I would have missed both of those very important parts of my life because they were spur of the moment contacts initiated by my daughters. Everytime I see one of my kid's names show up on my phone, I feel good that they are part of my life and either want to share something with me or need some advice. The occasional text that says nothing more than "Hi!" makes me smile. I used the calculator on my phone during the drywall session, I used the map app to find parking for the downtown shows, I used the flashlight to find the poop my dog dropped during a walk after dark, I used the camera to take some pictures of the wiring, I used the phone to call a hardware store. It's perfectly fine with me that you don't want to use a smart phone. I won't call you stupid or suggest that you need to see a mental health specialist. However, you should be aware (and accept) that many people don't sit around "staring at the screens on Smart phones" and missing out on life. What they do is incorporate the features available on the device into their activities to help them live their lives to fullest. |

Yep, duct tape to cover the holes exposing the wheel bearings. Duct tape stops dirt... Duct tape stop 75 MPH winds too. I had some repairs done to my van which required R & R of the plastic wheel well covers. Either the clips were worn or the mechanic didn't insert them properly, but the cover popped off on the highway and fell against the tire. I popped it back into place as best I could on the side of the highway, but as soon as I got above 40 MPH it popped off again. I couldn't let it rub on the tire for the rest of my 700 mile trip, so I grabbed the roll of duct tape from my tool box and taped the cover back into place, wrapping the tape up onto the bumper cover. It handled 75 MPH speeds for the rest of the weekend until I got back home and secured it properly. |
