And you two guys want to turn a tragedy into something political?

I'm not shocked in the least bit.

you mean the gov cutting all those jobs wasn't something political? or a
candidate for Pres suggesting that his state should secede?

I did like bill maher on leno: one of the worst droughts in Texas and Perry asks
everyone to pray...and now the state is on fire

Exactly how many jobs have been lost? Are not these people volunteer
departments? They lost funding but Texas still has a rainy day fund.

Just so I make it clear; secession is an admiral trait. It can even be
symbolic in nature -- civil disobedience... A passive sit down strike.

"...At noon, on the day of secession, at Mallory Square in Key West
Florida, Mayor Wardlow read the proclamation of secession and
proclaimed aloud that the Conch Republic was an independent nation
separate from the U.S. and then symbolically began the Conch
Republic's Civil Rebellion by breaking a loaf of stale Cuban bread
over the head of a man dressed in a U.S. Navy uniform. After one
minute of rebellion, the now, Prime Minister Wardlow turned to the
Admiral in charge of the Navy Base at Key West, and surrendered to the
Union Forces, and demanded 1 Billion dollars in foreign aid and War
Relief to rebuild our nation after the long Federal siege! "

Think cause and effect. You cut the appropriate people to fight fires, the fires
get bigger.

You don't think the cuts were "political"?

I don't know but as the temperatures get higher we're going to have more
wildfires. I'm not sure we have the resources to stop the inevitable.
Texas is one giant tender-box waiting to burn with no end in sight.
Unless it starts raining here soon it's just going to get worse. I've
heard predictions that this is going to be a dryer than normal winter too.

Why is the state paying money to volunteer fire departments? These are
the funds he cut, no?

I was curious because of BOP retirees listed in or near Bastrop.

I suppose FCI Bastrop survived...

I think most of the damage was east of Bastrop proper but could be
wrong. This is dated 9/5 so I don't know if it is still accurate.

That county complex might be what you are referring to?

Not true. The state of Texas has requested federal disaster assistance SEVEN
times in dealing with the wildfires. The last was in April. All have been
declined by the federal government.

To his credit, just last Thursday president Obama overruled FEMA and
declared a federal emergency for Texas.

You do understand that the fed doesn't often just hand out free money. There
is usually a hook buried in there.
