I drummed in many bar/club playing bands. It was fun, I wasn't that good, but good enough. Now I am over that phase of life and regret not taking lessons. For a 4 year old, he is well on his way. But, if he is getting proper traning, he won't have to overcome the bad habits he is making. I taught my daughter how to drum when she was 8 years old. She was playing in bar/club bands at 14. I had to go with her. I also sent her to get lessons and she quickly exceeded my skill level and went on to bigger and better things. She paid for her first car and insurance when she turned 16.
