My gmail goes through a pop server, I couldn't stand to use their web
based email or groups.

I don't block gmail users. Many people do, because either:

1. they don't know the difference between email and usenet, and assume
that anyone with a gmail address is posting to usenet through google

OR

2. they're using a newsreader that doesn't allow them to filter on
"message ID", so the best they can do is associate google with gmail.
