Maryland is one of only four states - along with Hawaii, New Mexico and
Washington state - that do not check the immigration status of persons
trying to obtain a driver's license.

....

The situation has gotten so bad that businesses run classified ads in
Spanish-language publications in the District, Virginia and Maryland
urging "undocumented Hispanic friends" to take advantage of the
opportunity to get a Maryland ID without having to prove they are in the
country legally.

....

In one case, Maryland motor vehicle officials say, 68 people applying
for licenses and identification cards gave the same address for an
800-square-foot home in Baltimore.

The real problem is the legislators, who vote for such
programs. Time to remind the legislators in those four
states, they work for us. That will be as effective as when
people call their legislators to vote against the "stimulus"
pork package. About 98% of us said not to pass the pork
bill, and see what good it did for us to all call and write.
Bitter? Yes, I can! Sarcastic? Yes, I can!

Just the ones that jump the queue. The US lets in around 37.5 million

Funny, isn't it the libs that want higher wages for entry level
workers? If you got rid of all the illegal aliens, simple economics
says that wages for the jobs they are doing would rise until they were
filled.

But then, libs don't think that way. I was having a discussion post
911 with two guys that owned a restaurant. It was back when Bush was
proposing the temporary guest worker program, so that Mexicans could
come here legally and documented for a period of 2 years to work.
These two guys were telling me one advantage of the slowing US economy
was that they now had English speaking help in their kitchen. So, I
asked them what they thought of Bush's proposed plan. "Why that's
EXPLOITATION!" So, here you have two libs that have been employing
illegals, yet when Bush proposed to have a system where guest workers
could come here legally, that is exploitation. With Bush's plan, the
guest workers being here legally would get higher wages and not be
subject to exploitation, because they couldn't be turned in and
deported.

I can't begin to imagine the mental gymnastics these two morons must
have to go through in their own minds to try to reconcile such bizarre
contradictions. It's part of BDR.

I know of one that was partially responsible for an accident.
I was in a Sam's Club parking lot with my Nissan Pickup. I went to back
out of the space and I checked behind for any pedestrians or other
vehicles backing out behind me. Saw none, so started backing out,
repeatedly checking left and right for pedestrians or vehicles coming
down the lane and saw none. All of a sudden, my truck stopped with a
loud bang. I checked the mirror and saw nothing. Checked both sides and
saw nothing. I thought I suffered some mechanical failure, like the
engine blew or the tranny fell out. Then, in the mirror I saw a vehicle
pulling away from my rear. My tailgate had hidden the car from view when
I had looked in the mirror. Apparently, we had backed up simultaneously
from opposite sides of the lane and collided. I got out and checked my
truck's rear end. There was only some scratches in the chrome on my step
bumper. I looked at his vehicle, which was an old Maxima. The entire
rear end was caved in. Both taillights were broken, and the entire area
between the taillights was pushed in to where it was about 6" in from
the trunk lid. The car was driven by a hispanic man with a heavy accent.
I asked if he was OK. He said "Yes, OK". I then offered to exchange
information and call the police to file a report. He said it was not
necessary. I said "You have a lot of damage, I have none". He smiled and
said, "It's OK. I fix", and repeatedly said he didn't want to file a
report, so we both left.
I suppose he didn't want any authorities involved, for whatever reason.

Let's solve the problem. Give them an easy way to become
legal.

It seems so many people hate anyone coming into the US simply
because they want to be here.

Since everyone (yes even the indigenous population) came here
from somewhere else, the only difference between legal and illegal is
a matter and when they came in.

I suspect that all the hate and fear is the result of the real
fear that they might be better than us and we then would become less
somehow. I truly feel sorry for those who fear others so much.

I remember when the Bush administration put forward that proposal, I thought
it seemed like a good idea and Bush's views on the issue were pragmatic as
were those of John McCain. However many Congressional Republicans were less
enthusiastic, it would be fair to say their oppositon kept the proposal from
coming to pass, apparently they didn't see a middle ground. So while it
might be fun to blame the proverbial "libs" for this as with all other
things, the reality is they weren't the ones who derailed the plan.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washing...-workers_N.htm

"During a trip to Mexico last month, Bush said he opposes amnesty and
automatic citizenship, but simply "kicking people out of the United States"
is not a "realistic solution." He said, "There's got to be a middle ground,
a reasonable way" to deal with the 12 million illegal immigrants who are
already in the country and working."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...112800067.html

"But the president faces an uphill battle in the House and Senate to realize
his vision of reform, which is drawing intense skepticism from many allies
in his own party who believe his approach is not tough enough. In the coming
weeks, the White House must persuade lawmakers to forge several immigration
bills, differing widely in scope, into a single policy.

Bush's call for Congress to enact a temporary-worker program is especially
contentious within the GOP. The president's proposal would allow foreign
workers to enter the country for a fixed period -- most likely three
years -- to fill jobs that go unwanted by Americans, but some Republicans
reject that as too close to amnesty for illegal immigrants. The workers
would be given a "tamperproof" identification card, and would be required to
leave the country once their term in the country expires.

"Listen, there's a lot of opinions on this proposal -- I understand that,"
Bush said. He added that the workers would not be put on a path to
citizenship and that workers who entered the country illegally would have to
pay a penalty before entering the program.

"I oppose amnesty," Bush said.

Will Adams, a spokesman for Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.), said his boss was
not convinced. He called the president "Clintonesque," for advocating
amnesty without actually calling it that. "It's new lipstick on an old pig,"
Adams complained. He said a guest-worker program would reward immigrants who
entered the country illegally."

Obviously Merricans. Maybe some of them get back to real work; not
like working in them Auto-Mobile plants, makin cars nobody wants to
buy and uses do much gas you can smell them for week afterwards. And
wot happened to them 'lectric cars'? Don't worry the Chinese and
Germans will/are making them anyway.
Or them so called Dee-fence factories making weapons that are used for
'offence'?
Chasing pahantom profits in 'Stock exchanges'? Stock exchanges!!! Huh!
More like 'credit printing' factories.

Mebbee about growing some food; planting some trees? Quote; "Ah yes. I
used to work for Chrysler; made the biggest most wasteful cars in the
world. More unecessary features on em than single man jazz band! And
they only lasted ten years or so afore they was broke or discarded to
be replaced by another monstrosity!"

How come we've built an economy so dependent on imported oil, imported
goods, use so much water (saw a guy other day using fresh drinking
quality treated water to wash down his driveway!), live in cities that
become so polluted, leaving aside the debate, if in fact it is one,
about the effect on the planet of digging stuff up; including coal,
oil, natural gas and then burning it using up the lesser amount of
oxygen cos we are cutting down all the trees.

Ah well nature itself has a wonderful way of teaching us a lesson!

Maybe fewer people in this world awould be a start? We could begin
with the biggest polluters and users of world resources; us!

Think about it anyway!

Gone to plant a few carrots.

Fine; I ain't going to argue morality or politics (though your attitude

It's rather more difficult for people to enter Australia illegally --
all that water around it, you know -- but Queensland (I don't know about
other states) always had what was in effect uninsured motorist coverage
as part of the driver's license fee. Underage kids steal cars and have
accidents, people forget to renew their insurance and/or registration.
There are plenty of reasons to have uninsured motorist coverage that
have nothing at all to do with immigration.

PA must also be bad because all the illegals in DE are driving cars
with PA tags. If you live in DE for a month or two you are required
to register the car in DE but nobody enforces the law. They also have
no insurance.
I know 3 people involved in accidents caused by illegals.

Yeah. That is why my insurance told me they would automatically add
uninsured motorist coverage to my policy at renewal.

I am for giving immigrants coming in the front door an easy way.
I am for shooting the ones coming in the back door.

We used to have a poll tax. Had to pay to register. AND you had to register

property to be able to vote on bond issues.

No more.

I picked apples for two seasons in Washington State, back in the day.
Very few Mexicans at that time. I also worked in the farm fields in
Wisconsin when I was a teenager. No Mexicans at that time. I've also
worked as a janitor, scrubbing toilets and other joyful tasks, on
several occasions. I worked as a potwasher in college. I mowed lawns
when I was a teenager. And, I often hitchhiked forty miles to the
nearest big city, to stand on the day labor line. No Mexicans at that
time.

So the answer to your question: When the illegal immigrants are gone,
the jobs will be offered to Americans, and they will do them.

I don't know if this has changed, but in the past many insurance
companies made you prove the person was uninsured. Your original post (or
the original post) indicated it as a hit-skip. That might not qualify
for uninsured since you can't prove they were uninsured.
