I had a similar problem with intermittent posting errors in Thunderbird
(I'm assuming this is what you're using since you said "Motzilla") and
checking the "Always Request Authentication When Connecting To This
Server" option in the "Server Settings" for my news server account fixed
the problem.

Maybe somebody at Google forgot to pay the power bill at the server
farm...seems to be rather screwed up this
morning...slow...slow...slow.

Thanks, but I screwed up and wrote motzilla when what I meant was the
"free" Motzarilla news server. (http://www.motzarella.org)

However, Luddite that I am, I'm using Netscape 7.2 and since it's in the
mozilla family I'll see if I can find an option in it like the one you
describe.
