OT For people that don't drive

What's wrong with carrying ID? Americans shouldn't be ashamed of who they are? Surely one should be proud to be a US citizen etc. and prove it by showing ID, either a passport, DL etc. ? As of now, for example no Canadian or other nataionality is allowed to enter the USA without a passport. Nothing wrong with that; probably need to know who is roaming around 'your' country, eh? In fact that can extend in some cases to who is even 'flying over' the USA! Note: And conversely with all this fuss about borders no American should go anywhere without their US passport; cos other countries similarly need to know who is in 'their' territory!. I proudly still have my British National Registration from 1940, when Germany was about to try and invade. They didn't succeed by the way! And few years later with tremendous help from the USA of that time Hitler learned his lesson and committed suicide (1945). Many years later that same registration made me liable for military service; if called. And if so it would have been the Korean conflict alongside Americans, Australians and others. So; one should be proud of one's nationality, one's loyalty and yes; your responsibility as a citizen to your country. Doesn't seem to be healthy idea to have lots of people running around without ID proof that they are bona-fide residents, does it? Gee whiz they might get away with not paying their share of the tax load! Note: On humerous one ......................... can you just envision some member country of the EU trying to keep track of a planeload of US tourists heading for vacation or to join a cruise ship in, say, Greece or Turkey? "Achtung, achtung ..... Und hundred citzen America fein Athens die morgen ...... ":-) Ah; who cares a long as they can identify themselves when they get off the plane! |

They effectively made the driver's license a national ID card when they mandated they all had to use the same format and all of the data would be given to the feds. |

Something called freedom, which a few old people remember.
The long forgotten thought that people could do what they wanted, with a few exceptions like crime. And that the government had something quaintly called the "burden of proof". They, government, had to prove thier case before they could tell us free citizens what to do. Like telling us to carry ID cards. Only us old folks remember that. And one at a time, we die off and the Obama people march blindly into totalitarian government. Ah, the dictators of the last century would be laughing thier asses off, to see what we have put up with. -- Christopher A. Young Learn more about Jesus www.lds.org .. "stan" wrote in message ... If you don't have a drivers' license, do you carry ID? What do you use? I was just reading the instructions for something (I don't remember what a passport or something). The instructions said you needed to have a state-issued Driver's License or ID card. It then said that a Learner's Permit was not valid because of the way the law was written. So if you don't take the Learner's Permit test you're okay. If you pass your road test you're okay. But if you have the Permit it doesn't count. Just seemed weird. |

Have you seen HR45? It will require you to have a firearms license for EACH of those guns. (at $25 a pop) Guns made over 40 years ago have certain advantages- no paper trail. Every time I visit a gun show, I take a gun to trade, face-to-face, with no documentation. I, personally, have probably screwed up the paper trail for at least 40 guns in the past ten years. |

If you don't have a drivers' license, do you carry ID? What do you use? In most states a photo ID similar to a driver's license is available from the state. In some states it is a requirement to carry one in lieu of a driver's license. -- Wayne Boatwright "One man's meat is another man's poison" - Oswald Dykes, English writer, 1709. |
