Apollo Hot Water Heater Issues(gas)
Several weeks ago when running hot water in the tub, I noticed the
water was discolored...brownish like rust or sediment. The cold water is clean. A friend suggested I drain the water heater. I turned off the main water valve to the home, opened several hot water spigots upstairs, and ran a hose from the drain fitting on the bottom side of the hot water heater. Water from the hot water heater was drained and, at times, a brown sediment was noted as the hot water heater drained. I repeated the process at least six times over the course of three days. I'm still getting discolored hot water. I did note some rust forming around a joint in the line running to the cold(water) recirculating loop connection. I did not note any leakage. The Apollo Hot Water Heater provides potable hot water for the home and also provides hot water through exchangers where air is blown over a hot waterfilled coil...and the house is heated. Is anyone familiar with this type of hot water heater? and does anyone have a idea as to what is causing the discolored hot water. One other question. Does anyone know of a dependable, competent plumber/HVAC in the Cary/Apex, NC area? |

Do you remember what your resolution was. I have flushed the hot water heater out many times. I have installed filters and it appears the brown sediment is coming out of the furnace. Any input you can give would be helpful. -- |

Any input you can give would be helpful. You need to flush the whole hot water system. The heat exchanger, lines, - the whole enchalada. Wouldn't hurt to put a bit of phosphoric or something through it too. Heating systems are generally "closed" with a limitted amount of oxygen to oxidize the system. Your system is an open system, with disolved oxygen in the make-up water. Bad system when it comes down to it. |
