You are really ignorant. TEOTWAWKI is scheduled for February 3, 2009,
at 2:47 PM EST. That's the date that all analog TV broadcasts in the
USA go dark, leaving nothing but digital signals. Expect riots, the
collapse of civilization, and the rapture of the technically literate
who have known since 1996 that it was coming.

ahh the original date was 2002 and its sure to get pushed back some
more.

government in action set a date but dont require digital tuners from
the get go, then figure in the $$ from the bandwith sale knowing its
not going to happen.

balanced budgets are a thing of the past with Iraq war draing $ cost is
now about 3 trillion and climbing

The original legislation was passed in 1996. It was originally
scheduled for 2002, then 2006, and now 2009. This time it's going to
happen. Believe it. Congress appropriated $1.5 billion for converter
boxes, but that doesn't mean that people's remotes will work.
Shortages will also be inevitable, since manufacturing and distributing
200 million converter boxes is completely beyond the realm of
possibility.

You notice the switchover is scheduled right after the 2008 general
election, giving people almost 2 years to cool off before the next
general election.

I was serious about expecting riots, as people spill into the streets
because they are unable to watch TV. Maybe it will snow.

So - do those of us who have digital tv, broadband connections
and HD get to - not worry about this ?

Just for the record, upstairs in a spare bedroom, I have a rotary
dial telephone that is still plugged in and working. I also believe
that I may a record player up there that can play a 78 RPM record
and/or an 8 track. I have not worried about this at all.

Do not worry about the end of the world. It's already tomorrow in
Australia. To paraphrase Charles Schultz.

I once got drafted into a panel at a sci-fi convention. The topic was
about how history might be changed if we'd had cable TV in the 1700's. One
of our conclusions was that the American Revolution would not have
happened because nobody wanted to miss their shows.

Remember about 8 years ago when some kook's followers believed his
prediction that the world would end on a certain day? They all went out
and ran up huge debts, figuring they wouldn't be around to have to pay the
bills. The world didn't end, but instead of being thankful to still be
alive they all sat around moaning about how much money they owed.

You just can't please some people. /

You know tomorrow will be the end, as Armageddon nears.........

Let's hope God made a backup.

At a minimum, the troops would have headed to the nearest saloon for
Monday (or Sunday) night football.

I hate to tell you this, but in 2010, all books will be converted to
HiRez. All current books will become obsolete and to insure that you
do not attempt to read them, a satellite will send ultrasonic sound
pulses, guided by laser technology. These beams of energy will
penetrate every outdated book in the world. The result will be all
words will be scrambled in every old style book on earth, rendering
them useless. Libraries, legal offices, and universities will be
affected the most. Plans are already under way to convert these old
books to fuel sources in order to eliminate flooding the landfills
with old books, magazines, and other reading materials.
