I have a 55' long ridgeline one story house (rancher). In the front is a
porch that comes out about 6' from the front of the house. Of course that
ridge line intersects with the main ridgeline. Where is the best place to
position the cupola, in the center of the main ridgeline, on the ridgeline
of porch roof, or offset on the ridgeline like 1/3 the length of the
ridgeline?

The cupela is where goes OUT of the attic. For maximum air
circulation, you want it as far from where the air comes IN
as you can manage. Thus, if you have gable vents at both ends,
you put it in the middle. There's only one gable vent,
shift the cupela away form it. If you have no other vents,
the cupela isn't going to do you much good.

Assuming it is a real cupola, of course- most I have seen lately in the
stores are decorative only.
