My house has a flat roof .. its a twin, over 40 years old. I am finding
that some insurance carriers will not issue coverage for flat roofs, citing
damage potential.

Every insurance company has its own underwriting guidelines, and they
will vary by state as well. A roof that's acceptable up here in
Washington may be unacceptable down in California because of their
greater fire risks, while a roof that's acceptable in California may be
unacceptable up here because of our wet climate.

I don't know of any insurance company up here that refuses to write any
flat roofs, but lots of them are picky about what types of flat roofs
they will accept.
