Default basement framing Q

when putting up walls in a basement, for hanging drywall, should the
frames be screwed into the [ceiling] floor joists? Or, should there
be a space left between the frame wall and the floor joists to allow
for movement/settlement? If the space is required or suggested, then
how to create that space between?

thanks,
fish
