basement framing Q

when putting up walls in a basement, for hanging drywall, should the
frames be screwed into the [ceiling] floor joists? Or, should there
be a space left between the frame wall and the floor joists to allow
for movement/settlement? If the space is required or suggested, then
how to create that space between?

thanks,
fish

Fasten it tight to the ceiling. You don't want the wall moving around.
If you finish the top of the wall to the drywall ceiling then you will
end up with cracks if you don't fasten it tight.

Tom in KY, make it right, build it tight.
