I called the number provided within the post for the United States
Postal Service. I spoke with Amanda who has ID number CZI931. I told
her about the scheme and asked her if it was legal. She put me on hold
while she went to look it up. When she came back she said that it
would be considered a fraudulent scheme (not legal). According to
Amanda the consumer affairs department can and does investigate such
schemes. The incident confirmation number is CV24236986. I have done
my little bit to fight this single piece of spam. Please take some
time out of your day to fight a piece of spam or two. You don't need
to make 100 different reports. Just make a couple and keep following
up on them and documenting your efforts. Once every conceivable effort
you could take has dead ended collect all your documentation and
present it to your elected officials. Ask them to place a call to
whoever is responsible for actually taking care of these issues to prod
them along. After a few weeks go back to the same elected officials
and either thank them or be sure to let them know their requests were
ignored and would they please try again. Nobody cares about spam
enough to actually DO ANYTHING so your only hope is dogged persistence.
Try to pick one you actually feel you can make a difference on. For
instance, you will probably have better luck with spam originating from
within the United States than spam originating from Niger.
