Default I just wanted to say

That would be Elmer Ferm, in 1897. A frustrated plumber from Waubushen
Wisconsin who was fixing the soil pipe in his house. He didn't have the time
to do the cast iron and lead thing, so he cut a length out of an inner tube,
and tied it on with manila rope.

And if you believe that, I've got some fine oceanfront property for you....
