I have a two story stucco house and between the first floor ceiling and
second floor floor there looks like an existing sheet metal horizontal
exterior flashing (embedded in the stucco but jets out about 1/4 inch)
across the stucco wall. The vertical stucco wall is flat. When I install the
new flashing for the patio cover do I flash in above or below the existing
flashing? Is there a web site showing what kind of flashing to use and
installation methods? Thanks.

Not much room under that z-strip for inserting a flashing, as they
usually only cover about 1/2 inch. What kind of "cover" needs flashing?
Is this a fabric, or is it something else? Need more info, please. Tom

Hard to imagine what to do with this minimal description.
If existing flashing sticks out perpendicular to stucco, you might try using
a rubber or plastic mallet to pound it so it is near vertical, with the edge
down. Then underlap or insert the new "L" flashing under this lip.
Installing flashing abutted onto the stucco, over the existing jutted-out
piece, will not make a waterproof joint. In fact, if the jut is only 1/4
inch, the underlap approach may not work either. Might be best to chip out
all the stucco for a couple inches under the lip,so you have more material
to overlap the new flashing. Also check out patio and deck handbooks at
stores, to see how to properly flash any new shelter or roof addition such
as you contemplate.

I try to do a conventional type roof - 1/2" plywood 4x8 sheets, roofing felt
paper on top and then composition shingles.
