Default WET/DRY VACUUM

I would like to hear recommendations for a medium duty wet/dry vacuum
to be used to clean up an unfinished basement concrete floor and
cleaning out four door sedan vehicles.

Are these rated at continuous duty horsepower? Going to stores later
today (or tomorrow), in time for weekend cleanup tasks.

I am thinking COSTCO, Home Depot, and SEARS. About $100.US maximum.
Any review articles for reference ?

Thanks.

Do NOT under any circumstances take advice from an idiot named AMUN.

AMUN is a clueless moron regarding tile, electrical and various other
construction issues. As things go AMUN will (thankfully) dissapear
as his kind usually does when confronted with their bad advice by
those who are knowledgeable in their respective fields.
Until then - BEWARE

I love my little Dewalt DW500. It is battery or line powered, for $70
"reconditioned".

Obviously it lack the power and capacity of the big boys, but the
portability makes up for it.

I know that the filters for Rigid vacuums are different than for Shop
Vac and others. I have to go to Lowes for Shop Vac filters because HD
only carries Rigid brand. Since Shop Vac is a major brand I stuck with
it for easier availability of filters. Who knows if Rigid vacs will
still be made 10 yrs from now but Shop Vacs probably will.

Vince: I bought the 5.0 HP / 12 gallon Ridgid about 2 years ago from HD
(on sale at that time for around $69, including a car detailing kit)
and it's been the most used tool I own. I'm on my second filter, and
yes they are a proprietary brand...but I'm not worrying that Ridgid
will disappear in a few years.

It's super powerful (will easily suck up hand tools too close to the
cleanup area). The only times it's been challenged (eg. the exhaust
air started blowing a bit too warm) are when the filter has become
clogged with drywall sanding dust. The trick there is 1. have an inch
or two of water in the drum to help capture the dust, and 2. dust off
the filter every so often (putting it in a garbage bag and giving some
good whacks and thrums along the ribs usually contains and removes most
of the dust).

In addition to standard household and shop cleanup, I've found it
useful in changing out toilets (simply vacuum the last quart of water
remaining, rather than mop it after lifting the toilet); clearing
reluctant drains (after removing the P-trap, just hold the hose on
there for a minute); vacuuming my small lawn (lol...most times I just
leave the cutgrass, but once a month I suck up all the leaves etc);
using it as a blower to clean off the patio quickly. For various tile
and drywall cutting, holding the nozzle close to the cutting tool picks
up a good amount of the dust that would otherwise disperse.

My contractor uses a ton of Ridgid cordless and corded tools. I've
observed they are fully featured and versatile, and he swears by them.
No, of course, I'm not a HomeDepot shareholder, nor do I particularly
care what you buy, LOL. Probably any shopvac type gizmo will be very
useful, but when I bought the 5.0 HP Ridgid the price bested what I saw
at Costco or Lowes. YMMV.
