Default Way OT Spoof emails

I apologize in advance if this off topic post offends anyone. I have no
commercial interest in this post.

I am sick and tired of all the spoof emails. And then a friend of my wife's
almost got taken in by one.

So I created a basic information page about spoof emails complete with
screen shots.

For most of you it is something you already know. It is for people like my
wife's friend that I want to help.

It can take up to 4 minutes to down load over a 28.8 connection.

Greetings,

I am sorry but apparently the American voters are over 50% spineless
wienies because we have voted NOT to go after the people running these
scams so long as they don't live in the USA. That is right. You heard
me. Over 50% of the American voting populous are SPINELESS WIENIES.
We leave it up to the country of e-mail origin to go after these
criminals because we are too afraid of offending someone. If the
country of origin doesn't go after them there is no recourse.
September 11th stirred up enough woop-ass for Afghanistan but I am not
even sure we are fully committed to spending the additional years we
need to in Iraq. We are pretty much completely out of steam now
unwilling to defend our interests elsewhere. If you went to the FBI
with information proving exactly who sent you the e-mail and exactly
where they would be and when the FBI would turn that information over
to the country the e-mail originated from and do nothing further. That
country would also do nothing further. That's what we voted for folks,
well, over half of us.

Call up the FBI and ask. I did. I encourage you to as well. IT IS
OUTRAGOUS. The FBI's number in Philadelphia, PA is 215 418 4000.

At least the one you posted asked only for email address and password.
I've seen ones purporting to be from banks or credit-card companies (but
never from one where I actually have an account, so I know right away
that they are fraudulent) that ask for my SSN and mother's maiden name
and other personal information.

One way of foiling many of these "phishing" emails is to turn OFF HTML
in email, if that option is available; it is in Mozilla. Then you will
see the misspellings and general garbage that would be hidden by the
copy of the genuine Website if HTML were turned on.
