Bekins or Mayflower?
Blue Event Horizon wrote: Any opinions on whether Bekins or Mayflower would be better to go with, if I have a choice for a very short notice move? The paperwork is rushing along fine, everything else seems to be slower than molasses in January. Will be transporting cars as well as household stuff if that makes any difference. There's one Bekins for Orange County, CA and more than one Mayflower affilliate to choose from if anyone happens to be knowledgeable about the local choices. Insurance tips and info for interstate moving welcome too. BEH Some random advice: Mayflower owns (or is owned by) one of the other big names (Allied? United?) so don't be surprised if that's the name on the truck that shows up. Should you care? Who knows! Ideally you'll fill the truck entirely with your own stuff and there will be no intermediate stops. This greatly reduces chance of loss. Ask about this upfront. (If your cars are going into the truck, this is probably more likely.) Have a friend around during loading and unloading whose job is nothing more than standing around outside watching the truck; otherwise there will be moments when it is open and unattended. How bad that would be depends on the neighbourhood, of course. Chip C Toronto |

No experience of either Bekins or Mayflower, but United Van Lines did a
good job for us on a move from Detroit to Long Island, NY about 8 years ago -- only household stuff; there was a car in the back of the trailer, but it wasn't ours.
