FPE breaker box
i just moved into an older rental home and was checking out the electrical
circuit breaker box to see if it was up to par. I wrote down all the pertinent info on the label inside the box and tried finding some info via google; with no luck. I was wondering if anyone out there knew anything about this box in terms of specs/etc or knew where I could locate a manual for it. Here is the info I wrote down: Federal Pacific Elec. Co. (FPE) 120/240 VAC 12 max no breaker poles 1 phase 3 wire 105 AMPS catalog# RH 104-12 Raintight thanks in advance, TB |

thanks for the info. the thing is that I don't think that my breaker box is the "Stab-Lok" that is mentioned in that page but aren't for sure. I didn't see "stab-lok" anywhere. does that mean my box is safe? regardless, i have a working knowledge of electricity, enough to have rewired my old house with new romex, breakers and outlets, but didn't have to replace the breaker box myself. what does it take to do this and what would a cost estimate be? thanks TB "Speedy Jim" wrote in message ... I have many experiences with just that model......all of them very bad. You'll have to ask local contractors for pricing on a service upgrade. Or, call your utility and see what advice they have on getting a new service installed. In some parts of the country, they can be very helpful. Jim "Speedy Jim" wrote in message ... Bah humbug. Only the two pole breakers are necessarily bad. The FPE
single pole breakers work just fine. I have one of these and I load tested all the single pole breakers and they all worked just fine. My newer 80's ones did trip slightly faster than my vintage 1962 ones. Two pole breakers can be a problem on these panels. If you can test them and they work fine then that's OK, but if they don't finding a suitable replacement might be a problem. |
