Settling house question, please
It has been suggested that the house is settling. It is in Michigan
and is probably over 50 years old. It has a cinder block basement. Some of the floor/walls are leaning as much as one inch over a three foot area. There is an obvious high spot in the floor above a support beam in the basement. To complicate the matter, the house was recently hit by a large tree which punctured a hole in the roof and side of a newer addition located beside the original house during a high wind/tornado. The storm was strong enough to uproot nearby mature oak trees. Question is: The house is so dramatically out of plumb. If it was caused by settling, would there be obvious cracking of the cinder block. I cannot see any cracks in the block. In the absence of foundation cracks, would the wind be the more likely cause? Thanks for your time and help!! |
