Vera Perks: Electric Lawnmowers with Rechargeable Batteries
Beware when buying these money pits, the batteries last slightly over
one year (just after the warranty runs out) and cost over 200 dollars to replace. One way to get around this is to buy insurance on the lawnmower and the batteries will be replaced for free (the insurance covers the cost) and if the lawnmower packs it in you get a new one. This is only recommended if one must have an electric lawnmower with rechargeable batteries, it's expensive but worth the cost if the insurance is also purchased, for example, people with environmental sensitivities find them useful. |

You didn't specify the type of rechargeable mower you used, or more to the point, the type of batteries. Batteries have different chemistries with different qualities. Some battery chemistries have many more cycles (discharge & charge to some level) than others. For example: Lithium Iron Phosphate LiFePO4, a variant of Lithium-ion, is capable of 2,000 deep cycles. NPR ran an interesting article last week about "extended warrantees" for cars and how the companies are going out of business after being prosecuted for violations of law. |
