Just got my property tax statement for 2011 and I'm pleased to say that
according to the county, the market value of my house has gone up 5% and
my property tax has gone up 17%.

I really do not understand why there are not widespread tax revolts.
Our county legislature has held next year's tax to "only" 8% more
than this year's. New York is the highest-taxed state in the Union,
if I recall correctly, and much of it is property taxes, yet the same
politicians who defeat property-tax reform year after year get re-
elected.
