Need Help Choosing Wall To Wall Carpeting
I'm considering a special purchase wall-to-wall carpet from one of the
big box stores. It's a Mohawk 100% EverStrand P.E.T. Polyester with Scotchgard and Stain Release. It has a face weight of 58 oz., a twist of 4.8 X 4.0 and a density of 2676. I can get this carpet for an extremely good price -- just $1.00 per sq. ft. At first, I thought this was a great deal. But, as I've read more on the Internet about polyester carpet, I now wonder if I will regret installing polyester instead of nylon. Here is an example of what I've read: "POLYESTER (also called P.E.T.) -- Don't be fooled by the softness of this fiber. This is a very soft synthetic fiber that holds its color well; however it is difficult to keep clean and has very poor resiliency." The carpet has a high face wt. because it has a long pile height. I'm concerned that the long pile height and the relatively low density may make the carpet crush easily. I would love to get away with spending so little on my carpeting. But, I also want a carpet that I'm happy with. I trying to decide if it would be worth it to pay 2 to 3 times as much to get a nylon carpet or if the polyester is a good quality carpet that I will be happy with for years to come. I'd appreciate any comments. Thanks for your help. |
