Default Wireless Mouse

My new computer has a wireless keyboard and mouse. The batteries in
the mouse (two AAs) go bad really fast. The mouse stays "on" all night
even though the computer isn't on. I called Dell and asked about it -
if there was a way to turn the mouse off - and was told by the tech rep
that the answer was no. I would have to just remove the batteries if I
wanted it "off". This doesn't sound right ... it's like leaving a
flash light on all the time.

Anybody on here have a wireless setup like this? How is it supposed to
work? This is the first one for me....my others were all wired.
Thanks.

Default Wireless Mouse

I have had a wireless keyboard and mouse for a couple of years. I have
had to change the batteries in the mouse only once. Mine is a wireless
optical mouse 2.0. I appears to be "on" (that is, the red light is on)
only when the mouse is moved.

"appears to be "on" (that is, the red light is on)

That is how mine is, also. So it is possible that the batteries I am
using are older than I thought? I got the computer in April and the
first batteries lasted a long time. The second set lasted a little
over a week....third set came out of same pack as second, and the red
light came on after about two days. I bought the batteries last summer
as part of my "hurricane stash" and thought they would last several
years if they weren't opened.

Gives me something to think about....

Thank you for letting me know.

If the batteries were bought last year, then the problem is more likely
something has gone wrong in your mouse, causing it to be on all the
time. If it's not under warranty, a new mouse is the solution,
otherwise get Dell to replace it.
