More socialist claptrap IMO. Cost of living in Chicago proper is a
zillion times higher than, say, Tulsa. But Chicago has packed-in
cities and large-scale mass transit.

The whole compromise is more complex than just the
average rent, food, and transport.

There is also the issue one's income prospects.
Chicago is likely to have more available jobs at any
given moment (and generally churning), at various
skill-levels, compared to Tulsa.

And many people may be quite willing to pay the same
rent for a small flat in Chicago, compared to a larger
place in Tulsa. Compromising personal space to get
other things which they value more.
