Default Casio TV problem

I almost hate to ask, but I have a Casio LCD portable. About 2"
screen. Model # TV400T. Can barely make out a picture with screen
brightness at full. Picture is black and white, and extremely faint
(should be color). This weak picture is intermittent. Not going to
spend much time on this, but if anyone has a really good idea where to
check for trouble, much thanks. I don't have a schematic either.

The common cause for this is the backlight going weak, or the inverter
driving it is defective. In most of these sets, the backlight and its
inverter are an integral part of the LCD screen backplane. In this case, the
screen would have to be replaced to fix this.

If you contact Casio directly, they have a very good service policy. I doubt
that they will sell the parts, or any service information to outside
servicers. You would have to send them the set. They have service world
wide. They are not very expensive for most of their repairs.
