Default Replacement cap smaller than original...

I am replacing a shorted cap and the replacement I have is about 1/4 the size
of the original. The value is the same 2.2uF 50V bipolar. This is going in a
tv.

Thanks for any help

Exactly, you left out the problem. Assuming your questioning whether or
not you can use this cap, YES.

Are you positive it's shorted? Disconnect one lead of the cap and
recheck. Dead short is rare in a cap I think.

Yeah the cap is pulled out of the circuit and reading zero ohms.

Check to see that the temperature rating is the same or better than the
original one,

Welcome to MY world. Have you ever seen an old style 'wet' electrolytic? Or
a KT66?

Are you sure your replacement is also bipolar?

Especially, if you are working on an older set, the parts from just a number
of years ago were 2 to 5 times larger than of today. When replacing
capacitors, use 105 deg Cels rated caps if possible. These will last a lot
longer.
