HH Scott 222C Restoration Advice/Info Needed
Hey guys, I recently bought a Scott 222C Amplifier that is in superb
physical and cosmetic condition. BUT, it is blowing fuses. I powered it up using a variac, and light bulb, and the light bulb glowed ever so brightly... I tested the transformer with a vom, and indeed it is shorted. (The transformer is marked TR12-3-1) Some of you veteran tube gurus may have restored one of these, and maybe can give me some pointers on what to look for ??? Any and all advice and comments are welcome, And many thanks for your time, Mark |
Troubleshoot the unit for a very bad short.

Any and all advice and comments are welcome, And many thanks for your time, Mark Have you disconnected all the secondaries incase there's a short in the amp? If there's a dead short across the primary it might be worth investigating inside the transformer. It's possible that there's a short where the wires go into the transformer case, or where they connect to the winding. It will be very difficult to find a replacement transformer for such an old amp. Your best bet would be to look on ebay for a junker that uses the same power transformer. You could also look into rewinding it. Andy Cuffe |
